REG 72-65 Orion

Rwanda Energy Group (REG) needed to pull off fourth-quarter exploits to edge Orion 72-65 in a tightly contested rescheduled game held at Petit Stade indoor gymnasium on Monday, February 3.

The result was rather unexpected, considering REG’s current form, having won their first two games by wide margins, including 104-58 victory against newcomers AZOMCO in their season opening game.

REG relied on individual brilliance of the likes star point guard Jean-Jacques Boissy, who scored 23 points, to fend off Orion’s attempt to pull off a major upset against them.

Ogoh Odaudu’s REG won the first quarter 19-12. The second quarter was even tighter but managed to claim it with a 22-20 score, leading with 41-32 at the break.

However, in the second half, Orion bounced back to win the third quarter 22-8, but REG fought to win the final quarter 23-11.

Boissy’s top performance was complemented by Daniel Pieter and Emile Kazeneza, who scored nine points each. Pieter was playing his first match since his free agency move to REG over the weekend.

On Orion’s side, guard Belleck Engelbert was a big threat to his former club, scoring 20 points, while Garba Chingka Kennedy and Stubbs Jeffery Tyrone added 16 points and 11 points respectively.

REG remain unbeaten in their last three games while Orion are on 1-2 record in as many game.
