The national football federation, Ferwafa is still courting sponsors in order to be able to fulfill their commitment of rewarding the best player, team, top scorer and coach from last season’s league campaign.

Since 2007, when sms media gave sponsorship to Ferwafa to reward the player of the year, top scorer, coach and team, nothing has since happened again.

Last year the FA only awarded the league champions and winners of the second division with a trophy, and it is highly unlikely to change this year, unless sponsors come to their aid.

It is a situation that Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa is desperate to find a solution for.

"We have been looking for sponsors since last year but with little success. We contacted some big Corporate Companies like BCR, EcoBank, MTN, Bralirwa and some others but we haven’t got any response yet,” Kalisa said.

The MTN Peace Cup has since replaced the league as the most lucrative competition in the country, with the winner bagging Rwf10m, runners up get Rwf 7m and the 3rd and 4th teams get 4m and 2.5m.

Ferwafa last had a league sponsor during the 2004/05 season and  the first quarter of the 2005/06 season before Bralirwa  through their Primus brand cancelled the deal.

However, to this date, no official word has ever been given as to what exactly led to the deal collapsing.
