Officials of the national football federation, Ferwafa believe the national team has the chance to win the second edition of the Cecafa U-17 Championship (Hassan el Bashir Cup) which is scheduled for August 19-31 in Sudan.

The federation Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa said yesterday that the competition will be what he called "a good footballing stage” to engage and access the junior team.

"Rwanda’s group is strong and this will help our boys to improve their game. Our main aim is to improve the quality of young footballers in this country.

"I believe they have prepared well enough for this competition and we are optimistic they can go all the way and win the trophy,” said Kalisa.

The team, which is currently training at Ferwafa turf, will be based in the city of Wadmadeni.

The first opening ceremony will be held in Khartoum on August 19 while another one will be in Juba on August 20 where the First Vice President Silva Kiir is expected to attend.

According to Cecafa, all teams and officials are expected to be in Khartoum by August 17 to facilitate the medical and cooper tests for the 21 referees and assistant referees. The tests are set for August 18.

The regional body Cecafa, Sudan Football Association and the Sudanese Government will cover all the expenses including air fares, accommodation and local transport for all delegations and officials during the competition.
