APR Volleyball Club is gearing up for the East and Central African volleyball club championship scheduled to start August 12 in Moshi, Tanzania.

The league champions have been doing daily double training sessions in a bid to get in the best form possible to win the coveted title they narrowly missed last year after losing to eventual winners KCC (Kenya City Council) in the final.

The military side coach Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye is optimistic of their chances at this year’s event.

"The boys have been impressive during training and we are optimistic of bringing home the trophy.

"We want to make amends for last year’s disappointment. There are no injury worries, all the players are fit and fighting for places on the team that will travel for the tournament,” Ndayikengurukiye told this paper on Wednesday.

Twenty-Five teams from Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Sudan, Djibouti, Seychelles, Eritrea, Somalia and hosts Tanzania are expected to take part in the week-long event.
