NYARUGENGE - The electricity and water utility, Electrogaz, will within one month solve the problem of water shortage which has hit most of Kigali suburbs.

Yves Muyange, the Electrogaz acting Director General confirmed this during a telephone interview with The New Times yesterday.

He said that the Nyabarongo project which is supposed to produce 40,000 cubic metres will soon be complete.

"A lot is being done to solve this problem which has affected many parts of the city and we are optimistic it will be over within one month from now since the Nyabarongo project will be operational,” Muyange said.

He said that new pipes are being installed in the areas of Remera, Nyarugenge, Kigali Business centre (KBC) and Kicukiro which are most hit by the water shortage.

"We are following closely this crisis and we made it our number one priority…we want the distribution of water to be complete by October in all affected areas.”

He however, called on everyone to use the available water sparingly as Electrogaz management is working hard to rectify the problem.

"The population should know that as we are doing all that we can to solve the problem, they should also know how to use well the little water available.”
