Health workers at Amahoro Stadium

Dear Editor,

Please allow me to voice my concerns on a situation I find very troubling. This week when health workers met in Kigali, the whole stadium was awash in white.

The whole setup was awesome and the mood and speeches very buoyant and active.

As I watched the over 40,000 health workers in the stadium, all dressed in identical white t-shirts and caps, I asked myself; "who is footing the bill?”

Surely if one took the modest figure of Rwf 2,000 was spent to dress one person, that would bring the bill to about Rwf 80 million; enough to build a dispensary!

This trend seems to be on fashion among government institutions, as they seem to out-compete each other in dressing up their functions.

This is not only wasting meager resources, but it is a very bad and costly idea.

If government institutions want to look smart, why can’t they look for corporate sponsorship for their t- shirts? I am sure Rwf 80 million is peanuts to the MTNs and Bralirwas.
