ATRACO sealed a well-deserved double after winning this year’s MTN Peace Cup. The taxi-men side secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory in yesterday’s final against an unwavering Mukura side.

Hamis Kitagenda’s 4th minute strike proved enough to propel Atraco to their second title of the season after the famed 2009 Cecafa/Kagame Cup championship, which they won last month in Sudan.

Kitagenda, who has had an exceptional season for the taxi-men side pounced onto a deflected shot from Jean Lomami to give Sam Timbe’s troops an early lead.

Lomami could have made it two on the 25th minute but headed wide. Two minutes from half time, Donatien Tuyisenge’s free-kick went inches wide to keep the score 1-0.
After the break, Mukura increased their pace but still failed to beat a well organised Atraco defence spearheaded by Aloua Gaseruka.

Mukura resorted to long range efforts but were still denied by a lively Jean Luc Ndayishimiye.

Daddy Birori, Akite Mudeyi and Rodriquez Murengezi all had their long-range shots easily saved by the Atraco custodian.

After the game, Rwanda’s Prime Minister Bernard Makuza together with Ferwafa boss Brig. Gen Jean Bosco Kazura and MTN Chief Executive Officer Khaled Mikkawi handed the trophy to Atraco’s Captain Jean Shyaka.

Atraco also pocketed Rwf10million for the victory while Mukura settled for Rwf7million.

In the third-place playoff, APR thumped arch-rivals Rayon Sport 4-2 to make sure that they walked away Rwf 4million richer. The Blues received a consolation Rwf2.5 million.
