KHARTOUM, SUDAN - TP Mazembe ran amok with a mega 8-1 win over Somalia’s Benadir FC on Friday to revive their hopes of a quarter-finals slot at the on-going Kagame Cup/Cecafa Club Championships in Sudan.

The result was a good come back for the Congolese side who suffered a shock 2-3 defeat in their opening Group B tie against Kampala City Council (KCC) of Uganda.

Skipper Trevor Mputu (player of the tournament at the 2009 CHAN tournament early this year) was one of the scorers for TP Mazembe.

Muse Mohamed scored for Benadir from the spot.
Meanwhile, KCC sealed their spot in the last eight after a 3-1 victory over first timers Prisons FC of Tanzania. It was their second successive victory in the championships.

Striker Robert Ssentongo netted a brace, while Tommy Okello scored the other to maintain KCC’s unbeaten run in the championships.

In Group C, defending champions Tusker made their intentions clear with a 6-0 humbling of Zanzibar’s Miembeni FC, while home side Hay Al-Arab was held to a 1-1 draw by Inter Stars of Burundi.

Last evening Rwanda representatives Atraco were battling Kartileh in a do-or-die clash that could determine their fate.

The last group games take place today (Sunday) with KCC facing Benadir and TP Mazembe battling Prisons in Group B, while Group C sees Tusker tussling it out with Inter Stars and Hay Al-Arab entertaining Miembeni FC.
