Etincelles made another giant step towards promotion to the top flight after Saturday’s 2-0 win over Pepiniere. 

Patrick Kwizera put the Northern Province club ahead on the 13 minute before Jean Claude Gasana added a second in the second half to seal the win. The result took Etincelles to 27 points, four points ahead of their main challengers Muhanga.

Etincelles coach Rajab Bizumulemyi couldn’t hide his joy after Saturday’s win. "We are getting the results we need but we still have to keep our feet on the ground,” he said.

"It’s not over. Muhanga is a good team with some good players and I’m sure that they will push us all the way.”

In the top division, Kibuye cooled their relegation pressure after Saturday’s 2-0 win over Mukura. Second half strikes from Jean Baptiste Bizimungu and Fred Uwimana gave the Western Province club hope that they can avoid the drop.

With La Jeunesse already relegated, the worst performer between Kibuye and Amagaju will be relegated.
