RWAMAGANA— Police in Rwamagana have arrested a man for attempting to murder his wife.

Damascene Ntibakunze, 26, a resident of Kabacuzi village, is said to have assaulted his wife in an incidence where the victim suffered panga cuts. The suspect admitted that he was responsible for the attacks.

Speaking from police cells Ntibakunze said, "I first cut her twice on the back, then on both hands and the stomach. But she did not die.”

The suspect said he was driven by anger because his wife had earlier threatened to kill him.

The couple got married in 2002 and they have two children. Previously, the suspect noted that  they had lived happily but wondered lately why his wife always threatened to kill him.

"It is the devil which tempted me; I regret the way I acted. I believe that if I get released, I will go back and ask for forgiveness from her,” Ntibakunze explained. He added that he did not intend to kill her.

Police sources informed The New Times that the woman has been admitted at Rwamagana Hospital.
