RDB donates to Genocide survivors

MUHANGA — The Rwanda Development Board (RDB) has donated Rwf4milllion and food items to Kagitarama Genocide survivors.

The donation was handed over by Rosette Chantal Rugamba, the deputy director of RDB, to over 102 survivors in Kagitarama survivors’ village, on Wednesday.

The food items included cooking oil, rice, sugar and beans worth Rwf1.9m and cheque for over Rwf2.1m -meant for a sewing and tailoring project.

"The funds are aimed at supporting the orphans to meet their needs, create jobs through skills development and a sign that RDB cares for genocide orphans,” Rugamba said.

Rugamba, also commended orphaned children for sustaining hope and encouraged them to strive for a better future.

On behalf of the recipients, Celestin Imbabasi, thanked RDB officials for the donation, which he said will be put to proper use to address their housing and education needs.

There are 102 orphans at this centre divided in to 34 families; among them are four graduates, eight orphans are in higher institutions of learning, 41 in secondary school, seven in primary school, while 29 are out of school.

Later on the same day, RDB officials and staff visited Kabgayi Genocide Memorial Site where they laid wreaths and held a moment of silence in honour of the victims.
