Former Miss France 2000, Sonia Rolland, has announced that she will be coming to her motherland Rwanda to work on various projects, mainly focusing on the environment.The actress, producer and philanthropist took to her social media platforms on February 16 and announced that in just a day she would be in Rwanda to kickstart her new project but did not reveal much.

"D-1 and back in Rwanda for a major environmental project. I will tell you more in the next few days,” posted Rolland, adding hashtags #Rwanda #motherland #environnement #sustainable #project.

According to sources, the veteran beauty queen is set to start an eco-friendly project which promotes tourism and supports locals to engage in income generating projects.

And herself in Nyungwe.

Another source told The New Times that the model and philanthropist is looking to establish a unique eco-lodge on one of the Islands on Lake but this could not be independently verified.

Rolland posted a photo of herself on the shores of a lake (which looks like L. Kivu), sitting in pebbles while wearing a black bikini and another one in Nyungwe Forest.

She also posted photos of Islands on Lake Kivu without adding more details.

Rolland, who became the first black woman to win Miss France in the year 2000 already has projects in Rwanda that include a school built in Ntarama, Bugesera District.

In 2001 Sonia Rolland founded in Rwanda a non-profit initiative dubbed Maisha Africa, which supported orphans of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, where she provided school fees, basic household items and water. She also built a nursery school.

Born to a French dad and Rwandan mother in 1981 in Kigali, Rolland never shies away from her Rwandan roots, often visiting the country on different missions and projects.

The actress produced a documentary film ‘Rwanda, du Chaos au Miracle’ that she directed with Patrick Hernandez, a French director and producer.

The documentary, loosely translated as ‘Rwanda, from Ashes to Miracle’, was first screened in 2015, earning major screenings on different French giant channels including France Ô and TV5 Monde.
