NORTHERN PROVINCE

GICUMBI — The Northern Province Governor, Aime Bosenibamwe has hailed Rubaya Sector residents for initiating several poverty reduction projects, which have seen the sector rise from the poorest to one of the richest sectors in the Province.

Rubaya beat other sectors in performance contracts after the recently concluded district evaluation.

Addressing residents of Rubaya, Cyumba and Kaniga Sectors at the Rubaya Sector, the Governor suggested `that other sector leaders in the province should pick a leaf from Rubaya.

"I will advise other districts in the entire Province to emulate the example of Rubaya Sector,” said Bosenibamwe.

Earlier, the governor inspected different projects in the sector, which included 28 dams, over 300 hectares of terraces and modern agricultural and livestock farms.

He further called upon local leaders to conduct cell and sector meetings during the afternoon hours, so as to enable the residents to engage in gainful activities during the morning hours.

The Mayor Bonane Nyangezi, said Rubaya leads other sectors in implementing district agricultural reform programmes, where over 600 tonnes of creeping beans are expected to be harvested during this season alone .

"Rubaya residents have embraced agricultural reform programmes and replaced non productive banana stems with creeping beans which are favoured by the local climate,” said Nyangezi.

He also disclosed that 100 per cent of Rubaya residents have registered for health insurance.

"Rubaya was the poorest Sector in the district, but it has now emerged to be the best in economic activities and provision of social amenities,” added Nyangezi.
