Afro-pop singer Alyn Sano.

June is the month Rwandan music gets some of the best songs of the year as artists strive to come up with what gets to become the ‘summer jam’ or ‘anthem’, or that song people will listen to in ‘summer’ and get people to dance.

Last year in the same period, Bruce Melodie’s "Saa Moya” arguably became the summer hit and this year the singer is looking to take the same slot with his latest "Katapilla”.

Bruce Melodie has also promised to release new songs soon but for now let us look at the top five songs that came out in June and are promising to be the jams you will be listening to in ‘summer’.

Katapilla - Bruce Melodie

"Katapilla” has been on everyone’s lips ever since it came out on June 24 and it is promising to go places, going by the number of people who have watched it.

The catchy and smooth ballad which is a fusion of afrobeat and R&B, written by Bruce Melodie himself, produced by Element in Country Records, with the help of Bob Pro, who mixed and mastered it, is already a hit, taking its place as a summer jam.

The song, whose video features Instagram model Christella, has already gained nearly 300,000 views in just four days.

Away - Ariel Wayz & Juno Kizigenza

"Katapilla’s biggest rival for the summer hit of the year is likely to be ‘Away’, a beautiful song that brought together talented upcoming singers Ariel Ways and Juno Kizigenza, which was released on June 18.

The extremely catchy love song, which was produced by little-known producer Rash and was mixed and mastered by Herbertskillz, brought the very best out of the two singers who are successfully growing their solo careers.

Its sumptuous video which includes captivating drone footage has already gained over 480,000 views since its debut on June 18.

Juno Kizigenza on Saturday, June 26, announced he had parted ways in an amicable way with his mentor Bruce Melodie to embark on an independent path after more than a year working with "Ibitangaza”. Will 'Away' be your ‘summer’ anthem?

Amabiya - Mico the Best

Once in a while, he comes up with a banger and this year is not different. Last year it was "Igare”, this year it is "Amabiya” or read "Ama beer”.

Mico the Best yet again went to the studio and together with Producer Made Beat touched the right chords and notes and now he is likely to have another summer hit.

Mico says "Amabiya” is a song about abusing alcohol, a beverage he says is good if consumed with responsibility because it brings happiness, but the opposite can also be true when it is abused.

Among other disadvantages of alcohol, Mico says one can make unnecessary decisions when drunk, squander resources or be a victim of peer pressure. The song has been a subject to debate on the name and content since it came out on June 17.

It has so far been viewed by over 210,000 people since it was uploaded.

Aba Ex - Ben Adolphe ft Platini P

One would think former Dream Boy’s member Platini Nemeye or simply ‘P’, has something against his ex-loves. From "Veronica” to now "Aba Ex”, Platini always has a message to his ex’s.

"Aba Ex” is a new song Platini featured in, by newcomer Ben Adolphe, and it is promising to be a summer hit. It was uploaded on YouTube on June 4 and has so far gathered over 210,000 views.

It was produced by Element and mixed by Bob Pro. When the two combine, it is an assured hit.

Hono - Alyn Sano

"Do you want me to die? Do you want me to die? Don’t let me die,” Alyn Sano says to her crush in her new song Hono’, which is also promising to be among the summer hits.

The love song which was released on June 18, has become a regular radio and TV hit, even though it is yet to garner considerable views on the video platform, YouTube.
