The Amavubi Stars’ head coach will be named on October 22, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Sports has revealed.

Joseph Habineza said that the new coach has been contacted and all is set for his arrival in the country to start his job but declined to disclose his identity or his country of origin.

"We have talked and everything has been finalized for him to coach the national team,” he said, before noting that, not until that day, both parties (Mijespoc and Ferwafa) would not reveal his identity.

"He is a qualified coach who is ready to lead the country to success not only in the region but also on the continent,” the minister added stressed.

The ever-joyous youthful minister also noted with great concern that the attitude of former coach Michael Nees played a major part in the team’s unsuccessful campaign to qualify for the next Nations’ Cup in Ghana.

"Nees was so unsuccessful in different factors which included poor attitude towards work, disrespect (towards others around him) and being self-centered. All this let his failure to perform his duties well enough during his one-year tenure.

"We are trying our best to bring on a coach who, we’re sure would do his best as far as putting together a better national team.

This is done for the benefit of the team,” he said.

However, Ferwafa denied the minister’s comments that the new coach has already been chosen. Chief Executive Officer Jules Kalisa said, "There is nothing more I can say at the moment other than confirming the new coach will be announced this month.”

Rwanda is seeking a new national football’s team coach after the unsurprising sacking of Nees who failed to qualify the team to the 2008 CAN finals in Ghana.

The German signed a one-year contract last September, and guided Rwanda to third place at the 2006 Cecafa Challenge Cup in Ethiopia and third in their CAN qualifier behind Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. 

Under Dujokovic Ratomir, Rwanda qualified for the 2004 Africa Nations Cup finals in Tunisia, but missed out on the 2006 edition when coached by Swedish coach Roger Palmegren.
