Sophie Tchatchoua, the Managing Director of Canal+ Rwanda, speaks during a past event in Kigali.

Canal Plus International is set to broadcast arguably the world’s most-followed championship - the UEFA Champions League - which is resuming on Tuesday, February 16.

Matches slated for Tuesday are Barcelona vs Paris Saint-Germain and Leipzig FC vs Liverpool FC. Both ties will kick-off at 10:00 p.m CAT.

As the championship takes place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, the next day will see Porto facing Italian giant, Juventus Football Club. On the same day, Sevilla FC will play against Bundes Liga’s Dortmund.

According to Sophie Tchatchoua, the Managing Director of Canal+ Rwanda, the broadcaster has taken note of how critical UEFA CL is as far as football fans are concerned, and decided to broadcast it until the end.

"Canal+ is going to broadcast all UEFA Champions League matches, being the only service provider to do so, locally, in French. For fans of football and Champions League specifically, they can watch these games on Canal+ Sport 3,” she said.

The channel can be accessed by subscribers with Zamuka na Siporo bouquet that costs RWF 20, 000.

"It is not only about broadcasting the content, but also about how we broadcast it so as to offer a memorable experience. Besides the 36 years of experience in broadcasting, we have the world’s best journalists and commentators,” Tchatchoua added.

Last year, Canal+ introduced four new affordable bouquets to help Rwandans enjoy plenty of channels at a lower cost. The four bouquets have channels in French, English, and Kinyarwanda languages.

They include ‘Ikaze’ that costs Rwf5,000 as monthly subscription, ‘Zamuka’ that costs Rwf10,000, ‘Zamuka na Siporo’ which is at Rwf20,000 and ‘Ubuki’ bouquet worth Rwf30,000 and has all channels.

All packages also have, by default, 60 African television channels, 50 African radios, and 9 local channels, a move that aims at boosting local content visibility on the globe.

"Canal+ is not only about sports. In these times of remote learning, Canal+ has many channels like English Club, which can help children to learn from home. There are also other channels for romantic series and other diverse content,” Tchatchoua noted.

Canal+ HD decoder now costs Rwf10,000, and accompanied by a dish and accessories. However, new subscribers have to load

For new subscribers, they can enjoy these packages by buying HD decoder that now costs Rwf10,000 accompanied with a dish and accessories. However, to watch channels, they have to load one of the available bouquets.

Canal+ currently operates in over 75 countries in Africa, Asia and Europe. Rwanda has more local channels on canal satellite than any other African country, while Côte d’Ivoire tops the continent in number of subscribers.
