Over the past week, the talk in the showbiz industry has been about alleged ‘beef’ between singers Bruce Melodie and Social Mula, after the latter accused the former of ‘pride and self-importance’.

According to Social Mula, real name Lambert Mugwaneza, Bruce Melodie developed a huge ego after ‘acquiring’ a TV station and succeeding in his career, and no longer feels the need to support or work with other artistes.

What is even stranger and ironic is that Social Mula made the allegations when he was hosted on the said television, Isibo TV, which is said to be owned by the ‘Saa Moya’ singer, but according to Social Mula, the TV station is actually not his but he was fronted as the owner to make it popular.

What is the source of the beef?

Though we could not verify whether the TV station belongs to Bruce Melodie or not, at least we managed to figure out the source of the beef.

The misunderstanding stems from what Social Mula described as pride on the side of Bruce Melodie, after he refused to post or promote a song they did together. The song ‘Iyo Byanze’ is by local producer Zizou Al Pacino, who normally brings together artistes on song projects.

According to Social Mula, Bruce Melodie has not taken time to boost the song or promote it in any way. He made the allegations while appearing on Isibo TV together with fellow singer Marina to promote their song ‘Nbabazi’.

Whether it is real beef or another gimmick to promote the song, clearly Social Mula was not impressed by Bruce Melodie’s attitude during the talk show hosted by Phil Peter on Sunday, January 24.

After Social Mula expressed his disapproval, Phil Peter chipped in and said that he got an update on the situation that Bruce Melodie went to studio first and recorded and was not aware that Social Mula would also be on the same song.

He explained that the song has taken over two years in the making and said that he was not sure they will shoot a video for it.

"I think from the time Bruce Melodie was named the ‘owner’ of Isibo TV, he has had a bad attitude. He thinks he is at a certain level, yet he is not there yet,” Social Mula said.

Isibo TV was launched in January 2020, and was said to be co-owned by Bruce Melodie and his business manager Jean de Dieu Kabanda.

The two are said to have some beef going back to 2019 relating to Salax Award, which Bruce Melodie won, beating Social Mula to the accolade.

"I have no problem with him. He is the one who has issues. He is better placed to explain why he hasn’t posted the song, but I don’t want to answer more questions on that guy,” Social Mula said as Marina and Phil Peter looked on.

He, however, said that he is Bruce Melodie’s fan because he sings well but that is all. Asked if he would wish to make peace with his fellow singer, Social Mula insisted that he doesn’t have a problem, it is Bruce Melodie who should check his attitude.

The beef between the two singers has been the talk of radio stations, with Kiss FM presenter and singer Uncle Austin weighing in on the conversation, pointing out that there haven’t been any recent feuds between artistes until Social Mula ignited this beef with Bruce Melodie.

Though both are considered talented artistes, Bruce Melodie has in recent years proved to be more successful, overtaking his peers in terms of projects and hits.
