Rajan Tiwari played one under with birdies on holes 4 and 14 to successfully lift the overall winners’ trophy at this year’s MTN Golf Classic that climaxed yesterday at Kigali Golf Club.

Competing in Group one (main event) that merged golfers with handicap nine and under, Tiwari carded 146net in the two-day event that teed-off on Saturday.

Having played 75net on Saturday, Tiwari (handicap 03) birdied one on the back nine to shield off Andrew Nkwandi who finished second after carding 149net.

After this performance, Rajan said, "I’m excited about my performance especially today (Sunday). In fact, I should have played a lot better had it not been for a few long drives on the back nine”.

In the subsidiary categories; there were a number of winners.

In Group two (handicap 10-19); Jorge Suazo beat David Palmer to the group’s top honors after carding 150net.

With a tie (77net) on Day two, Suazo was crowned champion after a superior Day one performance (73net). Palmer carded 75net to finish second.

In Group three (handicap 20-28); Bonny Musefano was in control. Musefano handicap 23 carded 39 stable ford points on Day two to finish off with 74points.

Olivier Munyaneza finished top of Group four (national team) after carding 154gross. Munyaneza played 76 gross on Day two to see off a late charge from the duo of Ernest Ndayisenga and Jules Dusabe who carded 155gross respectively.

Meanwhile, Jean Baptist Hakizimana who was ahead of the chasing pack (National team) on Saturday lost the outright lead after being disqualified yesterday. The national top amateur player was disqualified after carelessly failing to indicate his handicap on Sunday’s scorecard.

In the ladies’ category, Rehema Kashaka, handicap 22 returned to the limelight with yet another dazzling performance. The former BCR monthly Mug maniac notched 42 stable ford points after playing six-under. Following her brilliance, her handicap was reduced to 19.
