Ugandan striker Rachid Mutebi has threatened to leave Etincelles amid deteriorating relationship with the Rubavu-based side.

Times Sport understands that the 23-year old has started talks with Rwanda Premier League rivals Musanze, and he has formally requested for a release letter from Etincelles despite still remaining with one year of contract with the club.

Mutebi faults Etincelles for lack of support to players, and to him in particular.

"I have not been paid in a lot time and they [Etincelles] continue to play little tricks behind my back. I think I have been left with no choice but to leave,” said the forward.

Mutebi, who scored eight goals in the league last season, joined Etincelles from Mukura Victory Sport in September 2019 on a two-year deal.

He previously played for Bidico FC, Sadolin FC and SC Villa, all in Uganda, and Gicumbi in the local topflight league. The forward also played a crucial role as Mukura ended their 26-year major title drought to win the 2018 Peace Cup.

Following last month’s premature end of the 2019-20 season due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it is reported that at least 11 of the 16-team league will not pay players – since April – until the 2020-21 campaign starts in September or October.

As table leaders at match-day 23 of the 30-game season, APR were crowned champions while Heroes FC and Gicumbi were relegated to the second division.
