A new member of Kigali City Advisory Council, Peter Claver Kayigi, yesterday took Oath of Office at the High Court eight months after his election. He was sworn-in at a brief ceremony presided over by the Court’s vice president Josée Mukandamage.

It was attended by the Minister of Local Government, Protais Musoni, and the Mayor of Kigali City, Aisa Kirabo Kakira.

Kayigi, 58, replaces Jean Paul Ntagara who resigned from the council early last year.

Elections to replace Ntagara, were held mid last year in Kigarama Sector, Kicukiro District.

Musoni requested the new advisory council member to always report back to those who put him in office.

"There is much expected from you by those who put you in power,” said Musoni who also emphasized promotion of democratic leadership and decentralization as major pillars of good governance.

The minister welcomed Kayigi in the leadership circles and promised him cooperation from his office.

In a separate interview, Kayigi said that during his mandate, he intends to partner with members of the advisory council he is joining.

Kayigi worked with National Social Security Fund before he retired.
