Three local volleyball heavyweights Gisagara, APR and Police will represent Rwanda in the men’s African Club Championships due in Cairo, Egypt, from April 14-23.

The continental club volleyball showpiece welcomes more than one team from each member country, but their participation sometimes depends on the willingness and resources they have in place to enable them to prepare.

Gertrude Kubwimana, the technical director of Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB), confirmed to Times Sport that, for the first time, Rwanda will be represented by three teams in Africa Men's Volleyball Club championship.

In 2023, Rwanda had one representative in REG who finished the tournament in sixth place in Tunisia.

That was a year after history-making Gisagara, also current champions, became the first Rwandan team to ever win a bronze medal at the tournament after beating Port Douala of Cameroon by three sets to one to finish in third place.

The tournament had also been held in Tunisia. The same country will also host the CAVB Women’s African Volleyball Club Championships from April 24 to May 5.
