National carrier RwandAir will suspend all flights to and from Mumbai, effective March 15 in line with its continuous service improvement strategy, an official has said.

Commenting on why the national carrier plans flight suspension to India’s most populous city, RwandAir ‘s acting Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Andrew Best Owie told The New Times that: "RwandAir started this route seven years ago, and has continuously sought new ways to improve on its service delivery on the route.

"Hence, the need to source and deploy the right product to serve our esteemed passengers on the route has necessitated our action for now. Our present constraint to operate a non-stop flight to India is a major challenge which the airline hope to resolve in the nearest future with the right product in place.”

On how the move could affect RwandAir’s business, and the plan to deal with such an impact, he said that the airline is always assessing its routes "to ensure we are optimising our network in line with customer demand.”

"Therefore, we have the right network optimisation strategy in place. Hence, you can be assured that this has no wider effect on our operations,” he said.

RwandAir flies to more than 20 cities in Western, Central, Eastern, and Southern Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Europe, according to information from the airline.

In Africa, RwandAir destinations are Abuja, Accra, Bangui, Brazzaville, Bujumbura, Cape Town, Cotonou, Dar es Salaam, Douala, Entebbe, Harare, Johannesburg, Kilimanjaro, Lagos, Libreville, Lusaka, Nairobi.

Its destinations in Europe are Brussels, London, and Paris, while in Asia, it flies to Dubai, Guangzhou, and Mumbai (for which it is expected to suspend flights come March 15).
