APR held in Bugesera as Police FC’s woes continue
Sunday, February 18, 2024

APR had a tough afternoon in Nyamata as they failed to maintain their gap at the top of the Primus National League table following Sunday’s frustrating goalless draw with Bugesera FC.

It was an evenly matched game between table leaders APR who have not lost a single so far this campaign and a struggling Bugesera FC side which has only registered on win in their last five outings.

The likes of Sharaf Eldin Shaiboub and Alain Kwitonda came so close to scoring on the half hour mark but Bugesera’s defense stood resolute to keep the visitors at bay.

Francis Hairnginogo’s team quickly warmed themselves into the game with league top scorer Elijah Ani getting at the back of Yunusu Nshimiyimana and Clement Niyigena a couple of times only for goalkeeper Pavelh Ndzila came to the rescue.

The second half saw Bosco Ruboneka controlling the APR midfield as they fought hard to break the deadlock.

Various chances were squandered at both ends in the final 20 minutes of the game but neither managed to find the back of the net, as their 0-0 draw saw them share the spoils.

Despite being deeply rooted in the relegation zone, Bugesera have been able to hold APR in two legs this season, having also played a 1-1 draw in Kigali in October 2023.

APR FC now sit at the top of the table with 46 points, four clear of second-placed Rayon Sports. Thierry Froger still have one game in hand.
