Dear Aunt Silvia,

I am a young widow with two very small children. My husband died unexpectedly in a road accident and was left with two very young children and nothing much to hope for since I am not well educated.

My husbands’ elder brother has never been married and he has started showing interest in me saying that he wants to marry me so that he can take care of his brother’s children.

I don’t love him, but I am tempted to get married to him so that he can help me with the burden of providing for my children. But I am wondering if it is worth getting married to him.

Miriam.

Dear Miriam,

We all go to a great length to provide for our children. It seems your brother- in- law is in love with you and also wants to take care of his brothers’ children in good faith, so don’t push him away as yet.

Try and befriend him and ask him to give you time so that the two of you can get to know each other before you take your relationship to another stage.

Many people feel very guilty going into relationships immediately after the death of their spouses, forgetting that whatever happens, life must continue. If you have this guilt then it will be very difficult for you to move on in life.

If I were you I would take the first precaution. Get to know your status and his before you engage in anything serious because in this era of HIV/AIDS pandemic you cannot simply trust people.
