Police vs Mukura

Mukura Victory Sports coach Lotfi Afahmia has said that his side can only improve as they welcome Police FC to Huye Stadium ahead of Thursday’s Primus National League clash.

Mukura are in fifth place on the table with 30 points and a win on Thursday would see them leapfrog Police FC and jump into the top four, a result that Afahmia believes his men can achieve considering their current form.

"The way we started the season was unimpressive. We were conceding many goals but, slowly, we are turning things around. We have to create a great performance against Police FC and I hope we can win the game and close the gap at the top,” Afahmia said.

Afahmia likes to give players freedom to enjoy football but at the same time make sure they are creating many opportunities to score goals.

The Tunisian has been impressed by the progress that his players have made so far considering that it has positively impacted the club’s performance and he tipped them to only get better game after game.

"We are now good on the ball, we make effective passes and runs for each other and all these make the game look easier for us,” he said.

"We are getting better with every game and, hopefully soon, we will be up and closer to the top teams. We have spent time with these players and I can see there’s good progress.”

Mukura, one of Rwanda’s oldest clubs, has not won the league title since it was created 1960.

The Black and Yellow club counts five major trophies in their trophy cabinet, having won the Rwanda Cup in 1963. The competition was later rebranded to Peace Cup which the club lifted four times in 1978, 1986, 1990 and 1992.

To break the league jinx, Afahmia and his troops will have to contend with the power, experience and near total dominance of the country’s most successful club, APR FC as well as archrivals Rayon Sports.

Meanwhile, Police FC go into the match with a big task at hand to turn their poor start to the second round of the league, having lost twice and drawn once in three matches.
