Nyamirambo stadium nears completion (Dec 15)

AS the 16th edition of the African Youth Championship draws closer, the organising committee (Cocan) is positive that Amahoro national stadium is ready for Caf inspection.

The inspection that will be handled by the Caf facilities inspection team later this month is meant to confirm whether the stadium is ready to host the continental championship.

The Cocan Spokesman Jules Kalisa told Times Sport on Friday that Amahoro stadium and Nyamirambo stadium (which is still under intensive renovation) must be 80% ready to host the African championship.

"The required facilities at Amahoro Stadium have been put in place,” Kalisa said.

"The dressing rooms have been refurbished, the score boards are video matric and of Fifa standards and the floodlights have been upgraded.”

Nyamirambo stadium that will co-host the championship is under renovations too.

After its completion, the stadium will have a sophisticated play-back electronic scoreboard, new seats, a refurbished VIP lounge and state of the art media centre. It will also have its capacity of 12,000 increased to 15,000.

Cocan also reveals that other requirements by Fifa, such as dressing rooms and stands at the stadium should meet Fifa standards.

Upgrading work being done at Nyamirambo stadium ranges from redesigning and constructing a better VIP pavilion, covered stands and terraces.

Regional contractors, Roko are handling the renovation work that is estimated to cost Frw 1.5billion.

Meanwhile, planting artificial turfs at both Mumena and Kicukiro grounds is set to wind up mid next month.

The two stadiums which will cost $800,000 with the Remera artificial turf are set to be used as training grounds for U-20 CAN participating countries.
