NGOMA — A Senior Six private candidate in Kibungo gave birth to a baby boy before completing her exams, examination officials said.

Genevieve Nshyimiyimana, 23, an arts student had a normal birth on Friday, at Kibungo Hospital before sitting her English and History exams. She was doing her papers at ASPEK examination centre in Ngoma district.

Nshyimiyimana was allowed to complete her exams from the hospital.

In a related development, another girl identified as Reads Niyonshutu, missed her exams after delivering a still-born baby, a day before the national examinations started. She was also admitted at Kibungo Hospital where she has been undergoing treatment. 

Meanwhile, close to 100 students missed their exams for both Senior Three and Senior Six in the whole district. The district Director of schools, Victor Jemadhari said that they were yet to establish why the students did not turn up for the exams.

Other five students were also denied to sit for their exams, for failure to pay fees. Jemadhari said that these students had left school immediately after registration.

"These students immediately dropped out of school after registering. They did not do their end of term exams at school as they had not paid their school fees, which is contrary to rules and regulations governing the Rwanda National Examination Council (RNEC),” Jemadhari said.

Meanwhile, two students at ASPEK examination centre were implicated in exam malpractices, though Joseph Karerangabo, the centre supervisor said that the students were allowed to finish their exams.

"But we wrote a report of what happened, which we sent to RNEC. They are the ones to take the final decision,” Karerangabo said.
