On Friday, December 22, the Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) received a donation of cycling equipment from local brewer Skol Brewery Ltd. The donation aims to support Rwandan cyclists in their training for upcoming local and international competitions.
The event, held at the brewery’s headquarters in Nzove, Nyarugenge District, graced by FERWACY’s executive committee and SBL management, marked the official handover of the donated materials. These included 17 Ridley bikes, assorted bike spare parts, 339 cycling bibs, 594 jerseys, 66 pairs of cycling shoes, 39 pairs of gloves, 104 helmets, 500 water bottles, and 116 trophies to award exceptional performances during the competitions.

Eric Gilson, General Manager of Skol, highlighted that the festive season is an ideal moment to recap the company’s dedication to actively supporting Rwandan sports development and community initiatives in general.
Gilson emphasised the significance of empowering cyclists, both male, and female, with the necessary tools, to equip them adequately for the local and international competitions, notably the 2025 International Cycling Union (UCI) Road World Championships set to be hosted in Rwanda.
He said: "I discovered that we had quite a lot of equipment, unused. I thought it was very sad to keep that in the warehouse getting dust, and they are such nice and valuable equipment.
Gilson also highlighted the significance of sports, saying this is a good opportunity to donate to the federation.
"This donation could help supply equipment to various clubs nationwide, fostering training opportunities for young men and women. The aim is to motivate and encourage their participation, fostering the growth of cycling and sports overall,” he said.

As the cycling fraternity embraces the generous gesture, eyes turn towards the promising horizon where Rwandan cyclists, equipped and empowered, stand poised to make their mark on the global stage.
Samson Ndayishimiye, the president of the Rwanda Cycling Federation, commended Skol’s initiative in providing equipment that would otherwise be expensive and difficult for them to purchase.
He emphasised that this support would significantly aid them, saving a substantial amount financially. The funds saved will now be allocated to other cycling needs, he said.
Ndayishimiye highlighted a significant development opportunity for future local cyclists.
"They will be allocated among 11 active clubs comprising both female and male cyclists, with three additional teams expected soon. The upcoming year is anticipated to be exceptional, particularly with the highly anticipated ‘Tour du Rwanda’ competition,” he noted.
