Renowned Ugandan singer Joseph Mayanja aka Jose Chameleon was operated on Tuesday, at Nsambya Hospital in Kampala.

Chameleon was admitted at the hospital on Saturday after falling from his room on the third floor of Impala Hotel in Arusha over the weekend.

Chameleon had traveled to Tanzania for weekend concerts in Arusha and Tanga. He was set to also perform in South Africa and Europe.

"I don’t really know what exactly happened. All I remember is entering my hotel room after my show, changing my clothes and entering my bed. I was also shocked to find my self on the first floor where the restaurant is located surrounded by people who were calling me a thief,”

Chameleon told The New Times yesterday at the hospital.

Chameleon sustained serious injuries, breaking both legs.

He is likely to spend at least three months in a wheel chair. His doctors have said.

"Even if he spends a year in hospital, what is important is for him to be alive and recover. The doctors have assured us that he will be all right. I am very confident that the operation will be successful and he will be okay,” said

Daniela Mayanja, Chameleon’s wife, who is currently nursing her husband in the hospital.

Chameleon suspects that he could have been sleep walking, leading to his fall down three floors. 

He told The New Times, that he was confident he would recover with all the care that has been given to him.  "I will be fine!  I am receiving a lot of care and support from my wife, family, friends and fans,” he said.

By yesterday evening, over a hundred fans of the singer were flocking the hospital to visit arguably Uganda’s biggest music export.
