Taxi drivers should style up

This is a public concern which should be considered for publication in your paper.

First of all, I appreciate the police and other security bodies of the government who have ensured law and order in Kigali city, however irrespective of this security provided; it is so surprising and true that tax drivers finish off their days work as early as 8:00 o’clock.

Unfortunately this is common on the weekends when very many people are expected to move to different areas of the city and have fun with their friends.

Despite the fact that there are many people moving during the weekend, taxi drivers tend not to know this.

On Saturday I had a very bad experience, a friend who works with The New Times had come to visit me, surprisingly a few minutes after 8 o’clock; taxis in Nyabugogo Park had already parked and one could not get a taxi to Remera where she stays.

We tried to approach some drivers asking them to take us but they were not willing, saying that, it was time for them to go and have a rest after a long day’s work.

I was perplexed to hear a taxi driver making  such a statement , yet these are the people who are enrolled in this sector hoping  their work would earn them a wage for survival.
It is on this note however, that if they are to compete favourably with their counter parts in the East African Community, they should style up so that they can be able to save and sustain their families as well as saving the public from unnecessary costs using other means of transport.
