Atraco won their first national league title after a 3-1 win over Military Fc in a game played yesterday at Kanombe barracks ground while their main rival APR could only draw 1-1 with Rayon Sport at Mironko grounds.

With one round of matches still remaining, Jean Marie Ntagwabira has an un assailable four-point advantage over the defending champions, who’ll be contented with playing in the less lucrative CAF Confederations Cup thanks to their success in the Amahoro Cup.

Hamisi Kitagenda, Peter Kagabo and Alimamsi Kadogo scored for the new champions while J.M.V Ntagwabira got the consolation for Military who are going to play in the second division next season.

At Mironko, Masudi Kaka gave APR the lead whereas Jimmy Gatete picked the best moment to punish his former employers with the equalizer for Rayon. Both goals came in the second half.

Both teams had a goal disallowed in an uninspiring first half though APR will feel hard-done by referee Michele Gasigwa whom they claim wrongfully chopped off Haruna Niyonzima’s would-be opener.

However, Ntagwabira, a former APR coach, should be the happiest man around at the moment after steering the taxi-men side to their first silverware since their promotion to the topflight division during the 2005/06 season.
