Time to ditch oversize clothes

There were days when the likes of Snoop Dog and Diddy ruled; the lyrics to their songs played over and over in our minds. We took after everything they did; whatever they thought was fancy, we had no option but consider it fancy too.

They preferred oversize outfits made from acres of fabric and huge chains in the name of jewelry; most of us thought it cool too.

Jeans were baggy. So baggy that the fabric used would be enough to make a few extra pairs. For shoes, we had oversize Timberland boots that weighed close to a kilogramme. Back then there was certain majesty in excesses and overflows. There was sagging too, pants swung below our bottoms.

But those days are gone; the icons are now working on rebuilding their image. Snoop Dog is now Snoop Lion, Diddy was formerly Puff Daddy but most important is the change in their outfits - they now fit!

Most people followed the trend but it is probably time the ones left behind considered moderating their outfits too; make a few more pairs of pants from the fabric used to make one,  reduce the length of our shirts and put the heavy  neck chains in their place; the garage.

It is time we considered that those on whose shoulders baggy outfits rode to fame with are now toning it down.

The reason for moderation this time should not go down to our ‘stars’ choices, it should not be what we see on TV or magazine pages, it should be what we consider appropriate and what makes sense to us. Why would you want a pair of pants a few inches bigger?  Why would you consider a t-shirt that gets to your knees fancy?

When in official wear, the sight is worse - an ill fitting suit that makes one’s hand appear like that of a child.

In trimming the size of our outfits, we should also observe moderation so that it does not become difficult to tell between a man and a woman. We should observe moderation ensuring that the t-shirt’s length does not get past the waistline and pants do not take after those of ladies. For the sagging, there is an option but to lose them!
