Rwanda will Thursday, August 24, play Cameroon in the third place game of the 2023 Women's African Nations Championship after 3-0 set semifinal humiliation by Northern African giants Egypt on Wednesday.

Rwanda reached the semifinals after coming from two sets down to beat Algeria 3-2 in a historic comeback and Paulo de Tarso’s ladies were hoping to build on the win to beat Egypt.

However, Egypt were far better than the Rwandan side in terms of strong services, attacks and good defence to that resulted in three straight sets (25-14, 25 -11 and 25-10 in favour of the Pharaohs who will now face Kenya in the final.

Kenya reached the final after thrashing hosts and defending champions Cameroon 3-1 (25- 27, 25 -14, 25- 11 and 25-18).

Rwanda, will be looking beat hosts Cameroon to finish in the third place for the first time in the country’s history.

Both games will be held at the Yaoundé Multipurpose Sports Complex.

Uganda will play against Morocco in seventh place battle while Algeria will face Nigeria for fifth and sixth place encounter.

The 12 teams took part in the tournament including hosts Cameroon, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Egypt, Kenya, Lesotho, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Uganda and Rwanda.

Mali finished in the ninth place, Burkina Faso on 10th place, Burundi in the 11th place while Lesotho finished in the 12th place
