Are some people naturally slim?

While some people would pay a leg and an arm to shed off some weight, there are many out there who eat fatty foodstuff and do all sorts of activities in a desperate attempt to add some flesh to their frame. They even get stressed over being too ‘tiny’.

While some people would pay a leg and an arm to shed off some weight, there are many out there who eat fatty foodstuff and do all sorts of activities in a desperate attempt to add some flesh to their frame. They even get stressed over being too ‘tiny’. Chantal, who runs a boutique in Kanombe, says her slim size makes her feel insecure . "From home to school, jokes were passed around about my size. They would say I am not just skinny, but "sickly thin,” In my adult life, people think I am carrying some disease... During my pregnancy, I weighed 53 kilogrammes and now I am back in the 40s, so I am a pretty small woman,” she says. "I believe there are some super skinny people. I have a normal metabolism. Mine has been tested many times before. I am just small.”Aidah Kanshabe says she sees women in her age bracket being stressed over weight issues and wishes she was "like them.” "I have tried everything to gain weight and nothing works. I stopped working out because even before I started, my arms looked like I worked out. They say I’m lucky I can eat whatever I want and not gain weight but people who have trouble gaining weight don’t know what it’s like to try and gain weight,” she says. Why, for example, do some people seem to eat what they like and not put on weight, while others limit their diet yet struggle to shed their bulk?In 1967, a medical researcher, Ethan Sims, carried out an experiment at Vermont state prison in the US. He recruited inmates to eat as much as they could to gain 25% of their body weight, in return for early release from prison. The outcome of the trial could bolster the theories of Dr Rudy Leibel of Columbia University, New York, who believes we all have a biologically determined natural weight which our bodies make an effort to stick to, whether it is fat or thin.Healthy foods that won’t spoil you this Christmas
