The People’s Republic of China has confirmed its readiness to host this year’s Summer Olympics Games set for August 8-24 in Beijing.

The First Secretary at the Chinese embassy in Rwanda, Wang Xinmin said on Thursday in a press conference held at Amahoro stadium that the facilities are ready to embrace the Olympic Games.

A total of 31 venues in Beijing are ready to hold the Olympic Games next month as well as the Paralympic Games slated for September 6-17.

"The National Stadium, nicknamed the Bird’s Nest is scheduled to host the opening and closing ceremonies, track and field competition and soccer finals during the Olympics,” Xinmin said.

He also said that there are so many stadiums which will host  swimming, diving water polo as well as other events during the 2008 Olympics.

"Apart from the stadiums, other infrastructures needed for such an event have been finalized and they are waiting for participants to utilize them,” he said, adding that Beijing Olympic Games are not only a high-level sporting arena for athletes throughout the world to fulfill their dreams but also a cosmopolitan festivity and a platform of friendship for the people of the world.

Xinmin thinks the Beijing Olympic games will go on record as the best ever held Olympic Games as 10,500 athletes are expected to compete in 302 events in 28 sports, just one event more than what was on the schedule of the 2004 Athens games. 

Over 140,000 spectators and 40,000 journalists as well as hundreds of millions people across the world are expected to watch the games.
