Taekwondo players Emmanuel Birushya and Clarisse Uwayo impressed at the just concluded 2019 Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championships as they struck bronze medals in Korea.

The two Rwandans competed in poomsae – skill demonstration – contests, with each bagging bronze in men and women’s category, respectively on Wednesday.

Speaking to Times Sport in a telephone interview, the local taekwondo federation’s president, Placide Bagabo, hailed the two players for a ‘fantastic’ performance, and revealed that there is a Korean master arriving in the country this week to train more players.

“It had been a while since we last competed in an international event, and – thanks to Birushya and Uwayo – we made our presence felt with a strong return,” said Bagabo who was the national team’s captain before retiring to venture into the sport’s administration.

The Korean Ambassador’s Cup global showpiece is held once every two years.
