Rwanda international Olivier Sefu Niyonzima has expressed his delight after being named Rayon Sports player of the month for December on Tuesday.
The midfielder was awarded by Skol Brewery Ltd, the club’s main sponsors.
Niyonzima started in all Rayon Sports games last December, and was never substituted, scoring one goal and providing four assists as they won three and drew once in their four games.
“I’m very excited to have been recognized with this award. I dedicate it to my teammates and our fans,” Niyonzima said.
The 26-year old beat his captain and central defender Thierry Manzi as well as Ghana-born striker Michael Sarpong to the award.
“This is a great motivation. As a playmaker, I always aspire to set up assists or score when possible, and that is exactly what I want to keep doing. I want to keep my level up,” he added.
Skol marketing manager, Benito Karemera, says that the company will keep the culture to award best performing players in order to “keep them motivated” and recognize their work.
Skol Brewery Ltd – Rayon Sports kit sponsors – pump Rfw69m in the club every year. Last year, the two parties renewed their sponsorship deal until 2022.
After 15 match rounds in Azam Rwanda Premier League this season, Rayon are in second position with 31 points, four behind leaders APR and five ahead of third-placed Mukura.
