Rwanda international and former APR centre-back Aimable Nsabimana has left the country to join his new Indian side Minerva Punjab.
The 21-year-old departed to the world’s second most populous country Sunday morning aboard an Ethiopian Airlines flight where he is expected to sign a one-year contract with the reigning I-League champions today. He will immediately be unveiled and introduced to teammates and staff.
The versatile defender had joined APR in July 2016 from Marines FC and went on to become a key member of the military side before he was ravaged by a series of injuries since the beginning of the 2017/2018 season.
Speaking to Times Sport before boarding his flight, Nsabimana said: “I am thankful to APR and the amazing fans, it has been an amazing two years. I am now off to a new challenge and a new chapter in my career and I look forward to it.”
During his two-year stint with APR, the hard-hitting defender helped the club to Peace Cup and the league titles.
Minerva Punjab Football Club, also known as Minerva Academy, are an Indian professional football club based in Chandigarh. They compete as a member of the I-League, the top-tier for Indian football.
The soft-spoken defender, will now become the first Rwandan footballer; not only to play for Minerva Punjab, but also to feature in an Indian club.
