Fashion is getting better by day; with the old trends coming back full circle-only that this time round they are detailed with a little touch of today’s trend. Welcome back to the fashion that reigned the ladies fashion in the 1920’s in flapper-style dresses that had low dropped waists that were often fringed. Those days’ ladies oozed elegance in their drop waist dresses. Even though the original lower part of the drop waist skirts and dresses were made up of pleats, today, similar styles can be seen in rich fabrics and colours. Thanks to history, drop waist fashion is back on the fashion track and designers are having a field day outdoing each other with finer details. This is one fashion that I remember so well featuring highly in my mother’s wardrobe. In fact my mother’s dress waist drop dress was made from a purple polka dot material and a navy collar; this was in the early nineties, and I loved it every time she wore it, that one time I demanded that she makes me and my sister’s similar dress. Depending with one’s choice of fabric, drop waist skirt or dress can be made from comfortable knit, cotton fabric, silk or even lace. The drop waist style is especially flattering to fuller figure types. A dropped waist skims the waist and hip areas without clinging to the body. Since a drop style of waist doesnt sit on the stomach or hips, it can have a slimming effect on these areas. A dropped waist skirt may have an elastic or fitted waistline- all this depends with the designer, but for this season designers are going crazy with fitted waistlines as was seen during the Paris Fashion Week. Long, elegant drop earrings can be a good accessory to wear with a dropped waist dress to keep the elongated line consistent. Also depending with the occasion-drop waist dresses have been made to suit all kinds of functions. In fact, even the brides to be can now order their wedding gowns in drop waist fashion. For an evening outing, drop waist skirt or dress, should be paired with a high heeled peep toe shoes to finish off that elegant look. For a weekend out to the beach or shopping, a waist drop cotton dress can be paired with ballet flats or flat gladiator shoes for more comfort when walking.
