The Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfred Mukezamfura, is for the first time attending the East African Legislative Assembly, since Rwanda became a member of the EAC bloc.

“We have always been told to elect our representatives to the Assembly, but Parliament is still debating about it. We shall have them elected in the near future,’’ Mukezamfura said.
The Speaker said that the Assembly requires that MPs be elected in the same way as their national Parliaments to ensure that there is equal representation.
During the conference, new members to the legislative Assembly will be sworn in and oriented to serve the next five-year term, including on how to address issues pertaining the Community.Ends
