KICUKIRO - Since the Mayor of Kigali intervened in the overwhelming backlog of land cases in Kicukiro District, a total of 87 land problems have been solved and others dealt with in the past three 3 months.
In an interview with the Kicukiro District Land Officer, Eng. Claude Rwakazina, he revealed that most of the land disputes that have been raised since November were solved and many are satisfied with the solutions.
“The Mayor set aside every Wednesday as a day for meeting with people with problems and many are solved through this platform” he pointed out.
He added that much as some cases have not been conclusively solved due to their complexity, they are strictly being followed up.
“Some of the unsolved cases are awaiting court rulings and we shall implement what the court decides” he noted.
In a phone interview with Jules Ndamage, the Mayor of Kicukiro, he observed that most of the land cases have been solved and promised that his team will continue addressing any arising cases.
“We have solved quite many land cases so far. We call upon those still having issues to forward them to us,” he said.
Among the cases solved include that of Siraj Rusirali who had previously paid for 50 plots of land to the District but was given only 40 plots. He raised his issue during the Kigali Mayor’s intervention and it came to light that the District was in the wrong. He has now been given his remaining 10 plots.
Rugema Edgard, a resident of Niboye whose land problem was solved, expressed satisfaction on the way his issue was handled.
“I am really happy and satisfied about the way my problem was solved. My land had been unfairly taken from me, but now I have it and I am resuming my plans,” he told The Sunday Times.
