RELATIONSHIPS : On whether telling lies to win a partner may workout

On asking my friend Tom what could indeed force him to tell lies, he adamantly replied, “Whenever I want to secure my way out like when I have to win a new catch.” Although he did not deny telling lies in other situations, he stressed that despite the possibility to avoid it, lying to win is the easiest for him. He explains that his intention in this is to make sure he captures the partner’s mind but he later becomes honest to ensure that the relationship continues the right direction. “I do not keep on lying to my partner. After ensuring that she is fully on track, I am honest and faithful although I may in certain situations tell a lie,” he said. He also clarifies on which areas he can never miss telling lies. He explained that in situations or issues where he has told lies before, he makes sure he protects his statements by covering them with more lies in his defence. “If I fail to protect the statements I made at first, an intelligent partner can easily detect that I gave her false information hence disclosing the bad side of me,” he noted. To him, one way of making a partner contented and sure is by keeping her in a situation of hope. He argues that one way to keep the relationship compact and strong is by keeping it ever fresh through suspense and promises. Although by chance people succeed through telling lies, most especially in relationships they do not last. There is indeed a lot that may lead to failure or short time success whenever people depend on lies on specific issues. It is very easy for such a habit to run out of control especially when it becomes continuous based on how they handle certain situations. “Lying in a relationship meant to end in marriage can never work out,” says Samuel Barigye, 32, single in love, dating for a period of a year for now. He says, “It is very easy to forget the lie you told so that you continue with it. In such a situation, it’s shameful and a wise partner can never endure a liar. In this, one risks loosing the relationship.” He added that lying can never be once or twice but becomes a habit especially whenever the partner tries to discuss previous issues. He says that it becomes too hard to contain whenever the lie is about promises on either cash or even marriage. Whether one has to be squeaky clean or throw in a lie or two is a personal choice.
