National Women League
AS Kigali 1-0 Musanze
APR 3-2 Rayon Sport
FAIDA Sonya scored the goal as AS Kigali won 1-0 to claim the 2009 National Women League title yesterday.
Even APR’s 3-2 win over Rayon Sport at Ferwafa’s artificial turf proved insignificant as Grace Nyiranumuntu’s side lifted their first trophy at Ubworoherane stadium.
After the win, Nyiranumuntu stated that last weekend’s 1-0 win over 2008 champions APR had been the defining moment in the title race.
“Once we carried three points from APR, there was a good feeling that we could win the title. At that point, the title was ours to lose and I’m happy that we have finished off the job,” she excitedly said.
“It has been a tough season but the players did well. They played beautifully and deserve the title.”
APR’s Coach Egidia Kayitesi was also quick to commend her counterpart but promised that the army side would come back much stronger next season.
AS Kigali finished with 45 points, two clear of APR.
