THE National Paralympics Committee has received a grant of a 20,000 euro (about Rwf18 million) from the International Paralympics Committee that will go into national preparations for the 2016 Paralympics Games to be stages in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
A four-man delegation including IPC’s director for finance and administration, Georg Schlachtenberger, along with three others from the Chinese Lions Club and Chinese Foundation for People with Disabilities, was in the country on a three-day official visit, which ended on Tuesday.
The delegation was in Rwanda to assess the development of various projects by NPC, according to the NPC-Rwanda president Celestin Nzeyimana.
“The grant will help uplift our athletics ahead of Rio 2016,” Nzeyimana told Times Sport.
Nzeyimana further disclosed that, with support from IPC in partnership with Chinese Lions Club and Chinese Foundation for People with Disabilities, NPC plans to put in place courts for wheelchair basketball.
Schlachtenberger and his team visited Kanombe Wheelchair Basketball Club as well as HVP Gatagara in Nyanza.
