The inaugural Nyarutarama Open enters into quarter-finals on Friday with the men top three seeds all vying for a place in the last four.

The tennis tournament is serving as warm-up for the eight quarter-finalists who will all take part in next week’s International Tennis Federation ‘Money Circuit’ tournament due at Hotel Umubano courts.

Nyarutarama Open has attracted over 100 players in two categories; professionals (singles’ men and women) and amateurs (singles and doubles of both genders).

“I am hoping to make it through to semi-finals but you never know what may happen until the game is over, but I will play to win and increase my chances to win the title. I am taking this tournament very seriously,” number Gasigwa told Times Sport.

Gasigwa, who brushed aside unseeded Justin Nkuranga in two straight sets (6-1, 6-1) in the second round on Wednesday, faces Emmanuel Rukundo in quarter-finals.

Second-seeded Dieudonne Habiyambere, who easily beat Emmanuel Gasirita 6-0, 6-0 in the second round, will play against Justin Ntaheranwa in today’s quarter-final clash.

Third seed Olivier Nkunda, who eliminated Claude Habanabakize (6-1, 6-1) and then Jean Claude Tiganna (7-5, 6-0) in the first and second round respectively, takes on Mathieu Uwizeyimana in the last eight.

Olivier Havugimana play highly rated Ernest Habiyambere in the other quarter-final clash.
