The national junior volleyball team won its fourth consecutive warm-up game against Turkish side IBB Sports 3-1 on Monday ahead of the FIVB World Youth Championships due on August 22 in the Turkish cities of Ankara and Izmir.

Paul Bitok’s side won easily the first set 25-14, but the European side came back strongly in the second set even as it still lost 25-20. But the Turkish junior club recovered to win the third set 26-24 before the visitors upped their game to run away with the fourth set 25-11. Skipper Aimable Mutuyimana, Nelson Murangwa, Fred Musoni, Bonnie Mutabazi and Fabrice Nkezabahizi have all been in imperious form throughout the four warm-up matches in the last two week.

Last week, Rwanda beat Fenerbahçe junior volleyball club 3-0 and then 3-0, as well as IBB junior volleyball club 3-0 in the first three marches.

Rwanda committed some mistakes in reception and defence but Bitok is hopeful to correct those errors in the team’s final build-up match against ARKAS junior volleyball club on Tuesday, a day before making their debut in world championships.

The African bronze medalists begin their Pool C quest against US on Wednesday, before taking on African champions Tunisia on August 23, and then Canada on August 24, before winding up the group stage campaign with Serbia on August 26.
