Police has said there were no serious accidents and crimes during the festive season compared to previous years.
According to police statistics, on New Year’s Eve, three minor accidents were registered with no death, two of which occurred in Kigali and one in Eastern Province.
Eight road accidents and three deaths were recorded during the entire festive week.
In an interview with The New Times, Superintendent Theos Badege, the police spokesperson, attributed the decline to more vigilance by security forces and the improvement of the road network.
“Infrastructure has tremendously improved, not only in Kigali but in the entire country; that’s partly why we didn’t see many accidents,” he said.
Badege said that the festival season was, generally, peaceful with only one murder case countrywide.
Police statistics show that, between the Christmas of 2010 and New Year’s Day, three people died in 12 road accidents.
During the same period four people lost their lives in murder and assault cases.
