Editor,

Allow me to respond to a story that appeared in The NewTimes, December, 24 titled “Ex –rebels urge former colleagues to lay down arms.”

Over the last seventeen years, the country has transformed and Rwandans are now united. For the sake of unity and reconciliation, the government even pardoned some rebels. The FDLR rebels have no future because they are fighting an unjustified war. Therefore, the only option they have is to lay down arms and join other Rwandans and build the country.

Let us work together and consolidate the achievements that have been registered over the past years and map out ways of accelerating development.

I am certain, the world has a lot to learn from the way the Rwandans have come together after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
