RWANDA raised eyebrows after yesterday’s four-wicket victory over regional heavy weights Kenya in the on-going ICC/ACA Eastern and Southern Africa U-19 Girls’ cricket tournament in Dar es Salaam.

After restricting Kenya to a paltry score of 41, Rwanda chased down the score in nine overs and for the loss of six wickets. The team then continued their splendid run in the afternoon with a comprehensive eight wicket win over Mozambique.

Mozambique were bowled out for 32 runs before Veronica Iriho masterminded Rwanda’s chase with a patient knock of 18 runs to scoop the player of the match award.

It was a good come back for Rwanda who lost their opening match against Botswana. Rwanda’s coach Andre Kayitera has now tipped the team to push Tanzania and Uganda all the way.

Rwanda squad: Betty Mukunzi, Delphine Mukarurangwa, Lillian Muhoza (Captain), Diane Ishimwe, Cathia Uwamahoro, Claudine Uwase, Mary Maina, Miriam Maina, Miriam Assimwe, Sandrine Mutuyimana, Nicole Ingabire, Gorette Mutoni, Veronica Iriho and Sonia Uwimana.
