NYAGATARE-The Anglican Church of Rwanda (EAR) recently donated cows worth Rwf8million to people living with HIV/Aids in Karangazi Sector, Nyagatare District.

The donation of eight Frisian cows, and veterinary equipment was handed to eight families living with the pandemic.

According to Rev. Moses Gatarayiha of EAR Karangazi, the church has been assisting PLWAs in the area by providing them with milk and other foodstuffs.

“We realised that this was not sustainable and decided to start giving each family a cow. We want to ensure that at least every family of this category owns a cow,” he said.

He called on beneficiaries to take good care of the donation.

“These cows are yours…we are very sure that they will help you get rid of poverty and malnutrition. But you should take good care of them and pass on their calves to your neighbours,” he urged.

Beneficiaries said the donation would enable to change their well being through the consumption of nutritional foods.

Fidele Munyankindi, a veterinary officer in Karangazi sector promised to offer veterinary services urging the beneficiaries to always seek his advice whenever need arises.

Apart from cattle donation, EAR, through projects financed by international NGO, Compassion International offers health insurance scheme to over 6.250 families.
